Q&A with abdullah harun ilhan and gustavo balbela

In this film-essay, a Brazilian artist investigates the origins and survivals of modernity and imperialism from the central heating system of a Victorian house in the East of England. In ‘The Radiator’, the juxtaposition of appropriated images with shots that dissect the architecture and landscape of Norfolk form a reflection on the history of economics and of the images. England's space-time crosses the world, and it takes its economic and political models with it, as Maria Conceição Tavares teaches us. In the film, recordings of her ‘Political Economy Course’, taught in 1992 at the University of Campinas (Brazil), displaced into a dialogue between the teacher and the narrator addressing the foreign, the familiar, the empire and the global circulation of heat.
