This video is illustrated with drawings by children who attend the after-school programme of the Associação de Promoção Social da População do Bairro do Aleixo (APSPBA). Accompanied by audio testimonies, the drawings trace the remarkable trajectory of the Bairro do Aleixo community in Porto - from the relocation of families from Ribeira-Barredo in 1975 to the demolition of the neighborhood between 2011 and 2019. The film recalls the occupation of the unfinished towers, the creation of the Residents’ Committee, and the initiatives that led to the establishment of nurseries, schools, and communal spaces. Through images, testimonies, and text, it celebrates the struggle for the right to housing and the creation of a neighborhood with its own identity and life. Despite the physical destruction of Aleixo, the video shows how community ties endure, reflected in the resistance and reinvention of the APSPBA, now based in Condominhas.
