Arquiteturas Film Festival [AFF] is the first international festival in Portugal to screen documentary, experimental, animation and fiction films about architecture. AFF uses the power of moving images as a tool to enhance public appreciation and understanding of the built environment. Alongside film screenings, each edition of the festival features a public programme of talks, debates, workshops, masterclasses, installations, exhibitions, pop-up bookshops and guided tours.

The festival was founded by Sofia Mourato in Lisbon [Portugal] in 2013 and takes place on an annual basis. The first seven editions were organised by Do You Mean Architecture [DYMA], one of each together with the Lisbon Architecture Triennale. The 8th edition of AFF marked a turning point in the history of the festival. In 2020, DYMA decided to postpone the festival due to the Covid-19 pandemic and wait until it was safe to host public film screenings again. INSTITUTO then joined the organising team, breathing new life into the festival as co-organisers of the 2021 edition at Cinema S. Jorge in Lisbon.

In 2022, INSTITUTO took up the challenge of continuing the festival, which is now directed by Paulo Moreira. The 9th edition of Arquiteturas Film Festival brings the festival to the city of Porto, preserving its essence and reinventing its future.
