Organised by INSTITUTO, the Arquiteturas Film Festival is a platform dedicated to the discussion and dissemination of architecture through films, installations, debates, and urban walks. The programme is structured into three sections - Official, Guest, and Portugal Special - and takes place across various venues in the city of Porto, including Batalha Centro de Cinema, Casa Comum of the University of Porto, INSTITUTO, Circo de Ideias, Casa da Guitarra, and Centro de Documentação João Álvaro Rocha.

INSTITUTO is a focal point for different forms of cultural expression, located in the heart of Porto. The team’s interests and backgrounds have given rise to a programme that diverges from the field of architecture to encompass the visual and spatial arts, critical thinking and multidisciplinary collaborations. We seek to encourage the creation and exploration of new contemporary discourses through interdisciplinarity, the informality of the space and the will to tackle burning issues in today’s society.

Since 2021, INSTITUTO has taken up the challenge of organising and reinventing the former Arquiteturas Film Festival. Now in Porto, the festival is cementing its reputation as an international platform for discussing and disseminating architectural production through films, exhibitions and debates.

The Guest Programme features the Chair of Architecture and Urban Design at ETH Zurich, with a programme curated by Hubert Klumpner and Klearjos Eduardo Papanicolaou. Combining experimental cinema, sensory ethnography, and architectural thinking, it presents works exploring urban ecosystems and more-than-human relations. It includes two film sessions, the installation More-Than Cinema, and the launch of Manual for Designing Urban Imaginaries Colombia, proposing a reflection on the role of cinema, art, and pedagogy in reading the contemporary city.
